Behind the Wise Man Maduro cigars stands Nicolas Melillo, one of the most influential figures in the modern Nicaraguan cigar world. As early as the 2000s, he became known in the context of Drew Estate cigars, where he played a key role in shaping the early identity of this unconventional brand. Foundation Cigars and the Idea Behind “The Wise Man”

After parting ways with Drew Estate, Melillo made the clear decision to go independent and introduced Foundation Cigars for the first time in 2015 in Las Vegas. The original series El Güegüense referred to a Nicaraguan theatrical figure symbolizing wisdom, irony, and cultural depth — loosely translated as “the wise man.” This idea lives on to this day. For the Wise Man Maduro, a dark, carefully fermented Maduro wrapper from Nicaragua is used, combined with a Nicaraguan binder and a bold filler blend of tobaccos from the Estelí and Jalapa regions. The cigars are now produced at My Father Cigars, which is clearly reflected in their precision and rolling quality. Earlier Maduro versions from this brand were rolled at AGANORSA, but these were never available on the German market. Here, only the El Güegüense series was offered, which has since been renamed The Wise Man Corojo when production moved from AGANORSA to My Father Cigars in 2024.

The Maduro version presents itself from the outset as noticeably darker and more aromatic than its Corojo counterpart. Intense roasted aromas, dark chocolate, and espresso shape the opening, accompanied by earthy notes and a fine, natural sweetness.
