La Aroma del Caribe Connecticut

These cigars are known in the USA under the name La Aroma de Kuba, but for trademark reasons, they cannot be called that here. Therefore, the manufacturer and brand owner Ashton Cigars decided to use the name La Aroma del Caribe for the German market. Today, numerous lines are available here. The La Aroma del Caribe Connecticut, presented here, reached us for the first time in summer 2025 after being announced in the USA in summer 2023. They feature an Ecuador-grown Connecticut wrapper, beneath which lies a Nicaraguan binder and a fully Nicaraguan filler. This filler blend consists of tobaccos from the regions of Estelí, Jalapa, and Condega in the north of the country. The cigars are produced by the García family at their Tabacalera My Father Cigars, responsible for the portfolio of La Aroma del Caribe cigars since 2008.

La Aroma del Caribe Connecticut: Mild Cigars from Nicaragua with Ecuadorian Wrapper

Behind Ashton Cigars stands the Levin family, whose history is closely tied to premium cigars. Back in the 1970s, Robert Levin took over his father's cigar shop in Philadelphia, quickly discovering his passion for first-class handcrafted cigars. Today, Robert and his children, Sathya and Meera Levin, continue to run the brand with great enthusiasm and dedication. On the occasion of PCA 2023 in Las Vegas, we had dinner with both of them, enjoying a very relaxed and inspiring evening. They are extremely likable—reason enough alone to give their cigars a try! Initially, Ashton cigars were produced briefly by Tabadom (Davidoff). Since 1988, all Dominican Ashton cigars have come from Tabacalera A. Fuente, while the Nicaraguan ones are produced by the García family. The Aroma del Caribe Connecticut tastes as expected from cigars with a Connecticut wrapper. They offer cigar enthusiasts predominantly mild flavors with floral-herbal characteristics, sometimes described as hay-like or grassy. As it progresses, the cigar gains noticeable complexity but remains suitable for any time of day, appealing even to beginners.

Ashton Cigars and the Levin Family: Passion for Premium Cigars Through Generations

Ashton's range includes various premium lines, notably the beloved classics Ashton Classic, Ashton VSG, and Ashton ESG. Each cigar impresses with balanced flavors, first-class tobaccos, and masterful craftsmanship, offering aficionados authentic enjoyment and cigar culture at its finest. Incidentally, the name Ashton traces back to a British pipe maker, based on a recommendation from a friend in the tobacco industry who distributed Ashton pipes—crafted by William Ashton Taylor—at the time. When Levin sought a suitable, respectable brand name for his premium cigars in 1985, this friend suggested "Ashton", and the name stuck. William Ashton Taylor was a former Dunhill pipe maker who founded his own pipe brand in 1983. Thus, the Ashton name was already well-established in pipe circles and highly esteemed. Choosing this name wasn't random but a clever branding strategy—connecting the reputation for craftsmanship in pipe-making with the new premium cigar label.
