Warped Futuro

We first came across the cigars from Warped at IPCPR 2016 in Las Vegas, USA, where we “discovered” them for ourselves. The name can mean twisted, distorted or simply crooked, although there definitely aren't any Culebras in the lineup! The founder and owner of this relatively new cigar brand is Kyle Gillis, whose beard and overall appearance could easily qualify him as a hipster (in the nicest possible way!). Until 2008, he had been selling cigars produced at Tabacalera El Titan de Bronze in Miami, Florida. After taking a short break to finish his studies, he finally resurfaced in 2014 with Warped and expanded his cigar portfolio with various other products dedicated to the finer things in life.

Warped Futuro Cigars: What's Inside?

The Warped Futuro line was introduced in the US in 2015 and is a collaboration between Kyle and Max Fernandez of Casa Fernandez. According to them, these cigars offer a glimpse into the “future of cigars”. Both vitolas feature Nicaraguan Corojo 98 and Corojo 99 in the filler, a Criollo-98 binder and, finally, a Corojo-99 wrapper. All the tobaccos come from Nicaragua and are supplied by Aganorsa (a highly respected raw tobacco producer). The cigars are rolled at the Fernandez family's Tabacalera Valle de Jalapa (TABSA).

Tobaccos, Aromas and Flavor: Warped Futuro

These are remarkably well-balanced yet complex cigars that we'd rate as slightly above medium in strength. After initially woody and peppery notes, the second third tends to become creamier and sweeter. Towards the end, the blend actually manages to bring these two characteristics together, leaving aficionados pleasantly surprised ... ;-) The Warped Futuro Seleccion Suprema scored a very respectable 90 points in the US cigar magazine Cigar Aficionado in August 2016.
