La Chaveta White

It is our special pleasure – and at the same time a unique challenge – to introduce the La Chaveta White as the first series of our new in-house cigar brand La Chaveta. We’ve put a lot of time and passion into this project – enjoy!

La Chaveta – From Concept to Brand

As many of you know, we at Tabac Benden have been active in the cigar business since the early 1980s and have been offering our premium products online at Cigarworld.de since 1997. In addition to covering every cigar available in Germany, we regularly enhance our range with our own releases and exclusive collaborations. For example, we've been successfully offering Domaine de Lavalette from the Dominican Republic as an in-house brand for around 15 years now.

Over the decades, we’ve often talked about launching a high-quality cigar brand from Nicaragua, but for a variety of reasons, we never went through with it. It just never felt quite right: either the smoke samples and blend development stages didn’t meet our expectations, or the collaboration with the producer wasn’t a good fit. But one thing was always clear: we wanted to work with a small-scale producer, not a major tobacco conglomerate. We wanted to make sure the producer cared about this “baby” as much as we did.

Creamy Without Harshness: La Chaveta White Cigars

As is often the case in life, fortune favors the diligent. A stroke of luck opened up additional production capacity at one of our favorite Nicaraguan tabacaleras, the Casa de Alegria, run by Ralf Westerwick. That allowed us to finally join the development process. We've known Ralf since 2004 and share a deep mutual trust. So it quickly became clear which direction the blend should take.

The blend for the first La Chaveta series – the La Chaveta White – was meant to be creamy and smooth, with no pepper or sharpness in the smoke. At the same time, it had to deliver more body and aroma than Dominican cigars. The vitolas were also to be rolled slightly tighter to ensure perfect draw resistance and a solid ash. To our great delight – or rather confirmation – we landed on the right blend very quickly. We use a light, silky Connecticut Shade from Ecuador as the wrapper, an Indonesia as the binder, and the filler is the previously described mild and creamy blend of nicaraguan tobaccos.

What Does “Chaveta” Actually Mean?

Throughout the process, we also discussed the topic of a brand name extensively, but were never truly satisfied. Then, during one of our meetings, we walked step-by-step through the cigar-making process – and came across the crescent-shaped knife, the chaveta, used to trim the wrapper leaf. This metal tool, straight at the top and convex at the bottom, is used in virtually the same form worldwide in cigar production. We were quickly convinced by the sound and striking brevity: the brand La Chaveta was born. Attentive smokers may have already noticed that we incorporated the distinctive shape of the chaveta into both the logo and the cigar bands.

La Chaveta White: Wide Range, Fair Price

Thanks to our direct partnership with the tabacalera, we’re able to offer the La Chaveta White cigars in Toro, Robusto, and Perla formats at fair prices, which we’re happy to pass on to you, our customers, and to our fellow retailers. In addition to premium wooden boxes, all formats are also available in stylish fresh packs – and of course, you can always buy single cigars from us as well.
