CLE – Cigars

CLE Cigars: A Storied History

The meaning behind the name CLE is no secret. It represents the initials of the company’s founder, Christian Luiz Eiroa, a well-known figure in the tobacco industry. Together with his father Julio, he transformed the underdog brand Camacho into a global star.

The brand's success reached its peak when the Oettinger Davidoff Group acquired it. Rumor has it that the Eiroa family received an astonishingly high sum for the sale. While no figures have been officially confirmed, speculation suggests a number that would have allowed many to retire comfortably.

But not Christian. Initially, he joined the new owners of Camacho and spent some time within the Swiss corporation. At Davidoff, he took on more representational roles before returning to his roots with CLE – cigar production.

Impressive Comeback: Christian L. Eiroa of CLE

After selling the family-owned factory along with Camacho, the Eiroas opened a new cigar factory named El Aladino in Danlí.

Creamy-flavored cigars: CLE Criollo

The factory is named after an old cinema that was also once owned by the entrepreneurial family. CLE was the first project that Christian fully took charge of independently. Later, the brand Eiroa was added. Given the family’s reputation for quality, it's no surprise that third-party brands like Asylum also have their cigars rolled there.

The CLE portfolio has now expanded to include half a dozen series. The Corojo line features the same Corojo wrapper that once made Camacho cigars famous. With the Connecticut, Christian introduced a milestone: it is his first non-Honduran puro.

CLE Connecticut Cigars
The mildest cigars by Christian Eiroa: CLE Connecticut

Christian has stayed true to this experimental approach:
Prieto and Chele, both launched simultaneously, not only incorporate tobaccos from Nicaragua but are also rolled in Honduras’ southern neighbor. The name "Prieto" translates to "dark," referring to the Connecticut Broadleaf from the USA. This distinguishes it from the lighter and milder Chele, which means "light" or "blonde" in Spanish. The 25th Anniversary doesn’t commemorate the brand's silver anniversary but rather Christian’s 25 years in the industry. If choosing among the options is difficult, the Sampler allows you to try four different series in a Robusto format.
