CLE Maduro
With the new CLE Maduro series, Christian Eiroa expands his CLE Cigars portfolio with a line that perfectly balances character and depth. The dark, oily San Andrés wrapper from Mexico delivers intense flavors with subtle sweetness and gentle spice, while the Honduran binder and filler create the typically earthy, full-bodied profile that CLE fans appreciate so much. These cigars are ideal for aficionados who enjoy strong yet harmonious longfillers with a creamy smoke and long finish. What may confuse some people – including us – is the fact that Christian offers two brand families. The ones presented here are part of the more affordable “entry-level” CLE lines, while his “premium” lines are marketed under the name Eiroa Cigars.
CLE Cigars – A Tumultuous Backstory
The meaning behind the name CLE is no secret: it stands for Christian Luiz Eiroa, a man who has shaped the modern cigar world like few others. Together with his father Julio, he turned the once relatively unknown brand Camacho into an international success. After selling it to the Oettinger Davidoff Group – reportedly for a mid-eight-figure sum – Christian Eiroa could have easily retired. But instead, he chose a comeback. Following a short stint at Davidoff, he returned to independent production and to his true passion: cigar making. With the opening of the new factory El Aladino in Danlí, Honduras – named after an old family cinema – a new chapter began, turning CLE into a symbol of artisanal authenticity. To make things a bit more complicated: the Eiroa family is also behind the Aladino Cigars and many others (Tatascan, Rancho Luna, etc.) that are produced by his brother Julio Eiroa in cooperation with their father, also Julio Eiroa. That might sound like a lot of family drama, but the three are still on speaking terms! Apparently, they just had different ideas about how to approach the market, and now each follows their own path when it comes to cigar production.
Impressive Comeback: The World of CLE Cigars at CIGARWORLD
Christian L. Eiroa didn’t just create a brand with CLE – he made a statement for uncompromising quality. In addition to the San Andrés Maduro, the collection includes lines such as the CLE Corojo with its legendary Corojo wrapper, the mild CLE Connecticut, and the sister cigars Prieto (dark, with Connecticut Broadleaf) and Chele (light, mild, and creamy). Also part of the portfolio is the CLE 25th Anniversary, celebrating Christian’s 25 years in the cigar business. Anyone wanting to explore the full variety might want to try the CLE Samplers, which combine different lines in one box. Naturally, we offer the complete selection of CLE Cigars available in Germany here at CIGARWORLD – a must-have for lovers of authentic Honduran craftsmanship who value depth, structure, and character.
