Dan Tobacco: Pipe Tobacco From Schleswig-Holstein

Since its founding by Heiko Behrens in 1972, Dan Pipe has been known as a specialist retailer for Danish pipes and mail-order sales. Due to batch fluctuations and production issues, the decision was made in 1991 to establish an in-house pipe tobacco production.

The company is based in an old malting house in Lauenburg, near Hamburg, and now operates a fully equipped tobacco factory. Even specialties like fine flake tobaccos are pressed and processed in-house. This allows the company to be completely independent of pre-manufactured Danish tobacco products.

Dan Tobacco, also known as DTM, has made a name for itself in the field of aromatic tobaccos. Only natural aromas are used, and their high quality is evident the moment you enter the facility. Michael Apitz, who also manages the retail store, is the creative mind behind new blends and is particularly known for his love of Danish tobaccos.

The popular S.V.H. (formerly Sweet Vanilla Honeydew) is one of the most interesting and best representatives of its kind. Its unique aroma comes from natural vanilla essences, complemented by a light fruity casing. Unlike many vanilla-flavored tobaccos, the base is not Black Cavendish. Instead, Dan Tobacco uses a bright, lightly pressed Ready Rubbed Virginia with a high content of natural essences.

The Great Variety of Dan Tobacco Pipe Tobaccos

Dan Tobacco offers an impressive selection of natural tobaccos. The manufacturer provides an excellent range of flakes, placing great emphasis on the quality of raw tobaccos. For example, the Virginia Perique Flake St. Bernard is enriched with genuine St. James Perique from the USA. Unlike Danish products, these flakes are not glued together but are bound solely through pressing and heating. This results in a slightly looser consistency.
