Domenico: Cigars from the Holiday Paradise
Since 2001, the small cigar manufactory Domenico has been operating in Punta Cana. Here, on the eastern coast of the Dominican Republic, the local economy is shaped more by tourism than by tabacaleras. Visitors from North America and Europe appreciate the nearly 50-kilometer-long picture-perfect beach. If you're looking for the typical postcard Caribbean experience, Punta Cana is worth a visit. And rest assured, you won't be alone—tour operators from all over the world offer all-inclusive vacation packages to the hotels in the area.
It's entirely possible to vacation here without ever leaving the resort. But we wouldn't recommend it—the Dominican Republic has much to offer beyond its beaches. If you don’t want to spend your entire trip shuffling between a sun lounger and the buffet, you can take a trip into town and visit the Domenico manufactory.
Small Company, Big Quality
People often talk about small-batch production, but in this case, it’s true: This tabacalera is truly a small-scale operation. While workers in other factories must roll around 200 cigars per day, at Domenico, the number is no more than 120. This ensures that each vitola receives the utmost attention.
Domenico Cigars: Swiss Craftsmanship in the Dominican Republic
The atmosphere at this Swiss-managed company is familial. Skilled local craftsmen work here, and the tobacco doesn't come from far away either—it is sourced from the Cibao Valley (like the cigar brand Cibao), the main growing region of the Dominican Republic. The result is cigars with a fine, well-balanced character that is anything but overwhelming. The perfect vacation cigar!
