Peterson cigars and pipe tobacco
Peterson of Dublin has been a name for pipe and pipe tobacco lovers since 1865. It is a nice thought that a company that is dedicated to the production of beautiful, handcrafted pipes and tobacco made from the finest ingredients still exists and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2015. It is interesting to note that Peterson, previously known as Kapp & Peterson Ltd., the business idea of immigrants who created the headquarters of one of the most popular and well-known pipe manufacturers in the world in Ireland. And not only that: Peterson's pipes are masterpieces that have been awarded industry prizes and patents and are also characterized by the fact that literary figures and their fictional characters have discovered them for themselves, which is also evident, for example, in the production of pipe lines such as Marc Twain, Sherlock Holmes or Maigret precipitated.
Talented immigrants in the pipe business
The story of Peterson begins in England in the mid-19th century when the two German immigrants Georg and Friedrich Kapp opened a meerschaum pipe shop in London in 1865. Whether it was the flourishing company or perhaps a fraternal dispute, the two separated and opened new pipe shops independently of one another, with Georg staying in London and Friedrich, who called himself Frederick, moving to Dublin. There he met the young Lithuanian immigrant Karl Christoph Peterson, who as a craftsman had developed a knack for making pipes. Frederick hired this man, who from then on specialized in making bespoke pipes. Not only was Peterson a man of action, he was also smart. He continued to develop the pipes he made and applied for numerous patents, which were even awarded industry prizes. After Peterson died in 1919, the descendants of the Kapps remained company owners for the next several decades. It was not until the 1970s that there were upheavals in the company's history, when new buyers acquired the traditional company, which had been owned by Tom Palmer, an Irishman, from the 1990s until 2016. The company is now owned by the American company "Laudisi Enterprises“.
Peterson pipes are on everyone's lips
In over 150 years now, Peterson has literally been "on everyone's lips". Politicians, writers, personalities from sports and political life, and even characters from fiction, regularly carry a Peterson pipe with them in their mouths. But not only pipes are part of the company's range. There is also a wide range of pipe tobacco and even cigars, and they are expanded every year. The pipe tobacco made by Peterson is by no means a mass-produced product. The danish Pipetobacco-producer „Scandinavian Tobacco Group“ has been manufacturing pipe tobacco for a number of years. However, the tried and tested traditional recipes have been retained. As before, only exquisite ingredients are used, so that fans of classically pure pipe tobacco and lovers of flavored varieties get their money's worth.
