Corrida Brazil

Corrida Brazil cigars are rolled in Brazil using a native Arapiraca wrapper. Both the binder and the filler also come entirely from the South American country. Aside from the yellow version from the Dominican Republic (2 out of 5 strength points), these are the mildest representatives (3 out of 5 strength points) of this brand. They are vibrant and complex, with a flavor profile mainly shaped by notes of cocoa and coffee. Characteristically Brazilian and subtly sweet, they also appeal to more seasoned aficionados.

Villiger’s Response to Modern Cigar Trends: The Origins of the Corrida Series

The Corrida cigars are the response from the Swiss importer and cigar manufacturer Villiger to “innovative” marketing concepts in the style of Camacho cigars. This brand was acquired in 2008 by the Swiss group Oettinger/Davidoff and was subsequently rebranded as “young and dynamic,” replacing its previously classic design with an oversized scorpion. The various series of Camacho cigars were then differentiated by color while maintaining the same layout.

La Aurora took a similar approach with the Black Lion, Carlos Torano with several of its lines, and Agio with the San Pedro de Macoris cigars. Villiger eventually followed suit with the Corrida concept. The first releases in 2017 were the yellow (Dominican Republic) and red (Honduras) editions, followed by the Nicaraguan and Brazilian versions in April 2018, completing the quartet.

Corrida Brazil: Unique Flavors from Brazil’s Tobacco Fields

With the late Heinrich Villiger († 2025) at the helm, the German-Swiss company Villiger, with its German headquarters in Waldshut-Tiengen, has been a strong player in the German market for decades. In addition to machine-made shortfillers, the company also offers a wide range of longfillers. Examples include the La Libertad and the La Meridiana, both produced in-house.
