Tabacos Mata Fina Monte Pascoal

The first draws of the Monte Pascoal already offer creamy notes of earth and coffee. In the second third, the profile becomes noticeably sweeter, with caramel nuances emerging. The final third surprises with hints of cedar, grass, and white pepper—thankfully so, one might say, as the sweetness could otherwise have been overpowering for some. Our verdict: a great addition to our portfolio—smooth, sweet, and very approachable. We’re confident that local aficionados will also appreciate this import from Brazil!

Monte Pascoal Cigars: Brazilian Flavor Diversity with a Sweet and Spicy Profile

Handmade cigars from Brazil are still relatively unknown here. A few brands like the now discontinued Dannemann Artist Line, Alonso Menendez and Regalia Fina have been available in Germany for quite some time, but they remain in the shadows compared to the four major origins: the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Cuba.

Monte Pascoal in Germany: From Market Introduction to Relaunch

Monte Pascoal is the market leader in handmade puros in Brazil, but the brand was long absent from the German market. We wanted to change that, and during the IPCPR trade show in Las Vegas in the summer of 2013, we sat down with representatives from Tabacos Mata Fina. Following those talks, we placed our first order and launched the brand with two vitolas: the Robusto and the Minuto. With our second order, we significantly expanded the lineup and were also able to noticeably reduce the prices of the Robusto and the Minutos.

From Mata Fina to Düsseldorf: Monte Pascoal’s Journey to Germany

Since September 2015, Pasionpuro in Düsseldorf has been handling distribution of these cigars. This marked the beginning of a first redesign of the bands and boxes. In fall 2019, the brand underwent a full relaunch, with a complete overhaul of the boxes, bands, and the blend. The cigars introduced at that time carry the name Selection 2015, indicating that the tobaccos used come from that vintage. These “new” blends are easy to spot by their noticeably redder bands and red lacquered boxes.
