Alejandro Lopez Dominicana Maduro
This cigar line, like its lighter “sister,” is also rolled in the Dominican Republic. Only local tobaccos are used for the wrapper, binder, and filler. However, the wrapper undergoes a special treatment: through extended fermentation, these leaves become significantly darker and more aromatic than normally processed ones. Not necessarily stronger, but certainly richer and at the same time slightly sweet, they are definitely worth trying if you have already enjoyed the lighter versions! In addition, there is an extremely attractive price, making this series particularly suitable for an occasional smoke.
Historical Background of the Lopez Family
The Spaniard Alejandro Lopez emigrated from the province of Asturias to Panama in 1886. There, they initially cultivated high-quality tobaccos, which were originally intended exclusively for the domestic, rapidly growing cigar industry. Later, in 1910, the family of the patriarch Alejandro Lopez moved to the Dominican Republic. Here, too, they first focused on tobacco cultivation before opening their own cigar factory in 1920. With wise foresight, it was established near what is now the cigar capital of the Dominican Republic, Santiago de los Caballeros. Don Alejandro died in 1948, and with him (unfortunately) the Tabacalera at that time. Today, respectable cigars are once again being produced under his name. Should he be looking down on them from his cloud, he would surely view the products with kindness and satisfaction.
