Initially, this series was called “Gran Reserva” and was later renamed Arturo Fuente Don Carlos after the family patriarch Carlos Fuente (which is also why the Robusto bears this name) as new formats were introduced.

This also highly aromatic blend of Dominican tobaccos in the filler and as the binder is crowned with an African wrapper from Cameroon. Most wrappers for this series come from the 1984 harvest. They are therefore probably the oldest wrappers used for a continuously produced cigar line. They lend the cigars a spice and richness of flavor rarely found in cigars from the Dominican Republic. All Fuentes are relatively full-bodied and characterful cigars by Dominican standards, which is partly due to the use of at least four different types of tobacco in the filler.
