Caoba Cigars
The Caoba cigars are crafted in a small tabacalera in the Dominican Republic. They are imported by our trade colleague Sebastian Gollas from Berlin, who has made it his mission to bring smaller and lesser-known cigar lines to Germany that nevertheless deserve to be offered here. The term Caoba is Spanish for mahogany tree, which, incidentally, is also the official tree of the Dominican Republic. The founder of Caoba Cigars is Don Julio Perez González, who used this as inspiration for the brand name.
Caoba Cigars: A Tribute to Dominican Tobacco Tradition
The tabacalera is located in the old town of Santo Domingo and was founded in 1992. Initially, the cigars were sold mostly locally. This changed in the late 2010s when American Adam Zuber visited the tabacalera and fell in love with its cigars. He ensured that the tabacalera made its first appearance at the IPCPR in the USA in 2019 and subsequently acted as a distributor for the U.S. In spring 2021, our trade colleague Sebastian Gollas from Berlin began importing this brand and currently offers two lines of Caoba cigars.
The Journey of Caoba Cigars: From Santo Domingo to the World
Currently, the Caoba Origen Dominicano is available in four different vitolas. The filler tobaccos and the binder come from the Dominican Republic, while the wrapper is a Mexican San Andrés. In terms of flavor, they offer dark aromas and plenty of creamy smoke. Throughout the entire smoking experience, they reveal notes of dark chocolate, coffee, and nougat.
