Davidoff Maduro
The Davidoff Maduro cigars were originally introduced in 2008 and then discontinued in 2016. One can only speculate about the reasons at the time, as the trend of Maduro themes has been unbroken for a long time. The cigars now presented here were reintroduced in 2024 with a new blend, a new box design but unchanged cigar bands.
Davidoff Maduro Cigars: Reissued with a Refined Flavor
The current vitolas are rolled with an Ecuadorian Corte #7 (i.e., cut number 7) Maduro wrapper, a Mexican binder, and filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic. The main features that Davidoff particularly points out are the following characteristics:
- the fermentation duration of the Maduro wrapper has been doubled to 16 months
- this results in a temperature increase in the fermentation pile
- the Corte #7 wrapper is at the very top of the plant and thus receives significantly more sunlight
The Davidoff Maduro thus offers a balanced and nuanced flavor profile for aficionados of Maduro cigars with full flavor and pronounced sweet flavors. In Spanish, Maduro stands for ripe or also for dark wrapper. During the 16-month fermentation, the wrappers are turned a total of 12 times: This takes 32 hours each time and normally requires 4 to 5 workers to completely turn the entire fermentation stack from inside to outside and from top to bottom. During this process, the leaves are tested for combustibility and flavor at least three times.
The Art of Maduro Fermentation: Discover Davidoff Maduro
About 40% of the sweet and creamy taste characteristics are due to the Maduro wrapper, resulting in the Davidoff Maduro cigars becoming sweeter and more refined with more flavors of initially dark chocolate and honey, as well as roasted nuts and increasing wood notes as they progress. Overall, it is clear that these are full-bodied cigars with sophistication, made sweeter, more refined, and especially more flavorful due to the long fermentation.
The company Oettinger Davidoff is very particular about its image. Thus, all cigars and accessories from Davidoff are distributed worldwide only through so-called depositaries. Only the machine-made Shortfillers like the Davidoff Zigarillos or the Demi Tasse are freely accessible in all tobacco specialty shops. The aforementioned more exclusive Davidoff cigars are sold exclusively in selected, high-quality and brand-owner controlled depots that meet the high standards of the brand owner.
Our local store, the Cigarworld Lounge, is an official depositary in Düsseldorf. Here, as well as online, we carry all formats and many accessories of this extraordinary brand and always have them readily available!
