Davidoff Maduro
The Davidoff Maduro cigars were originally introduced in 2008 and discontinued again in 2016. The reasons for this decision can only be speculated upon, as the Maduro trend has remained strong for many years. The cigars presented here were reintroduced in 2024 with a new blend, a redesigned box, but unchanged cigar bands.
Davidoff Maduro Cigars: Relaunch with Refined Flavor
The current vitolas are crafted with an Ecuadorian Corte #7 Maduro wrapper, a Mexican binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic. Davidoff highlights the following key characteristics:
- The fermentation time of the Maduro wrapper has been doubled to 16 months
- This results in a natural increase in temperature within the fermentation pile
- The Corte #7 wrapper leaf grows at the top of the plant and receives significantly more sunlight
As a result, the Davidoff Maduro delivers a balanced and nuanced flavor profile for lovers of Maduro cigars, offering full-bodied aroma and pronounced sweet notes. The term Maduro means “ripe” in Spanish and is also associated with a dark wrapper. During the 16-month fermentation process, the wrapper leaves are turned a total of twelve times—each cycle lasting around 32 hours and requiring four to five workers to completely rotate the fermentation stack from inside to outside and top to bottom. During this process, the leaves are tested at least three times for burn quality and flavor.
The Art of Maduro Fermentation: Discover Davidoff Maduro
Around 40% of the sweet and creamy character can be attributed to the Maduro wrapper. The result is a cigar that is sweeter, more refined, and more flavor-intense, with notes of dark chocolate and honey at the start, followed by roasted nuts and increasingly pronounced woody notes as the smoke progresses. Overall, these are full-bodied cigars with finesse, whose extended fermentation makes them smoother, more refined, and above all more expressive in flavor.
Davidoff maintains very strict standards regarding its brand image. All cigars and accessories are distributed worldwide exclusively through so-called authorized depositaries. Only machine-made shortfillers, such as the Davidoff cigarillos or the Demi Tasse, are more widely available in tobacco retail stores. The more exclusive Davidoff cigars, however, are sold only through selected, high-quality, and brand-controlled retail partners that meet the company’s strict standards.
Our local store, the Cigarworld Lounge, is an official depositary in Düsseldorf. Both in-store and online, we carry all formats and many accessories of this exceptional brand and keep them consistently in stock.
