Freud Superego

The cigars from the Freud Cigar Company, like those of Carlos & Maria, are a project of Agape Lifestyle Inc. from the USA and were first introduced in 2022. The name Freud refers to Sigmund Freud, a defining thinker of the 19th and early 20th centuries and the founder of psychoanalysis. His iconic portrait — a half-profile shot, cigar in hand — is immediately recognizable to many and symbolizes his strong association with the world of cigar enjoyment.
Freud Cigars: Psychoanalysis Meets Tobacco Indulgence
Sigmund Freud had a well-known passion for cigars — according to reports, he smoked up to 20 a day. In his characteristically sharp tone, he once described smoking with a wink as "a displaced form of masturbation." A remarkable quote that today is met more with a smile than controversy. Regardless of the provocation, it underscores the central role cigars played in Freud’s daily life. This close connection makes him the ideal symbolic figure for the cigar line that bears his name — a name that instantly evokes the idea of cultured enjoyment among aficionados.
Superego Cigars: Craftsmanship from Tabacalera William Ventura
The cigars from the Freud Cigar Company are more than a tribute to their famous namesake — they embody a profound appreciation for pleasure, reflection, and character. In line with the psychological depth Freud pursued in his work, each of these cigars tells its own story. The Superego cigars are crafted at the Tabacalera of William Ventura in the Dominican Republic. They feature an Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper, a Sumatra binder, and a filler blend consisting of Nicaraguan Jalapa Seco as well as Dominican Criollo 98 Viso, Corojo Ligero, and Piloto Seco.
David Stadnyk and Luis Torres: The Minds Behind the Freud Cigar Company
This cigar brand is the creation of investor David Stadnyk and Luis Torres, former CEO of Casa de Montecristo and previously affiliated with Davidoff. The series presented here explores Freud’s theory of the superego, using it as the conceptual basis for its first line: Superego. This fusion of symbolism and craftsmanship results in a product that appeals to both seasoned cigar enthusiasts and connoisseurs with a sense for history. The outcome is a complex smoke with balanced aromas and an elegant structure. The superego — or Super Ego in English — represents the moral part of the psyche in psychoanalysis; it follows the rules and seeks to avoid mistakes. The other much bolder cigars from this brand, sold under the series name Alterego, do not correspond to Freud’s three key concepts of the ego, superego, and id. Instead, they stand for a close, intimate relationship in which one person acts as a kind of “second self” for another.
