Kristoff Original Maduro
The Cigars from Kristoff are currently produced exclusively in the Dominican Republic. The first and classic series, which also include these Kristoff Original Maduro, are manufactured in the factory of Charles Fairmorn. However, the now discontinued Galerones of this brand were rolled at the PDR Cigars manufactory by Abe Flores.
Kristoff Original Maduro: An Opulent Experience for the Senses
Glen Case, the founder and owner of this cigar brand, chose a wrapper from Brazil for this series. As can easily be seen from the dark, oily texture, only leaves in the Maduro shade were selected. The binder is Dominican, while the filler is a blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos. These regular Maduros differ from the Ligero Maduro in the amount of Ligero used. According to the manufacturer—we did not weigh it ourselves—the Ligero Maduro contains three times the amount of this strong tobacco. The original spelling goes back to the son of Glenn Case, whose name is Christopher. The classic spelling was a bit too boring for Glenn, so he preferred the version with a K and a double F at the end.
The Visual and Flavor Elegance of Kristoff Maduro Cigars
Visually, the Kristoffs were a delight early on: the head of the cigars used to be rolled as a so-called pig-tail. The foot of the cigar was not cut after rolling; instead, the wrapper was folded over the foot end and tightly rolled. This gave the presentation a slight resemblance to a stick of dynamite or something similar. This handcrafted “candy” at the foot end has been discontinued for some time now—probably for cost reasons—but this does not detract from the quality or flavor of the cigars! In terms of taste, the Kristoffs are always “rich” and opulent in a very particular way that is rarely experienced with cigars. The dominant aromas are nut, licorice, and a subtle sweetness. Not particularly strong, but simply very rich in flavor. Difficult to describe—try it yourself! It may sound like typical sales copy again, but it is genuinely meant... :-)
