Villiger La Flor de Ynclan
Creating the text for this series is (finally, once again) a very gratifying job! There's so much to talk about here. Let's start with the origin of the brand name; it is originally of Cuban origin and was first mentioned at the end of the 19th century. Subsequently, the trail goes cold until Heinrich Villiger of Villiger Cigars revived this brand in the early 2000s. A blog from the USA states that they were introduced in 2005, but we had already sold some cigars from this series in 2003. They were then discontinued for a few years, and we sold the last (old) La Flor de Ynclan cigars in 2013.
In October 2018, the revamped vitolas finally reached us, after being introduced at the IPCPR in the summer of 2017. Heinrich Villiger and Matias Maragoto, the owner of ABAM Cigars, the manufacturing Tabacalera, jointly developed this very pleasing blend. Matias is a native Cuban and met the head of Villiger in the Dominican Republic in the late 1990s. Since then, he has produced numerous cigars for the company; for example, the Villiger 1888 cigars also come from his Tabacalera ABAM Cigars.
They are very mild, slightly creamy cigars suitable for any occasion. The binder comes from Indonesia, the wrapper is a Connecticut Seed from Ecuador, and the filler consists of tobaccos from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. The fundamental characteristic is a woody, slightly peppery profile that only becomes minimally more intense during the smoking experience. The Flor de Ynclan doesn't require much attention; they are very relaxed and composed companions that are easy to smoke while still possessing all the qualities one would expect from a good premium cigar.
