Eiroa 1916 Tabacalera Eiroa

With the Eiroa 1916 Tabacalera Eiroa, Eiroa combines its long history of tobacco cultivation with a new cigar line. The name refers to more than a century of family tradition, while the blend deliberately bridges the different taste preferences of the generations. Santi Eiroa developed a blend positioned between the stronger style favored by his father Christian and the milder preference of his grandfather Julio. The result is a range of Honduran cigars centered on aged tobaccos and two time-honored seed varieties from the family’s own stock.

Family Tradition and Tobacco Cultivation at Eiroa

The story behind the line goes back to Generoso Eiroa and is closely tied to the family’s tobacco cultivation. Today, Christian and Santi Eiroa continue this tradition. For the 1916 Tabacalera Eiroa, Santi uses Corojo and the rarely used Pinareño. Pinareño was brought to Honduras in 1960 by Tino Agurdin and is considered more demanding to cultivate than Corojo, as the plants produce lower yields and are more susceptible to disease. This is precisely why the seed holds a special place within the family’s tobacco stock.

Eiroa 1916 Tabacalera Eiroa: Belicoso, Robusto and Toro

For the blend, the Eiroa 1916 uses five-year-aged tobacco for both the wrapper and binder, while Corojo and Pinareño come together in the filler. Three formats are available: The Belicoso measures 16.51 cm in length with a diameter of 1.98 cm and stands out with its tapered head. The more compact Robusto has the same diameter and measures 12.70 cm in length, making it a suitable choice for those who prefer a shorter format. At 15.24 cm long and 2.06 cm in diameter, the Toro offers the largest ring gauge of the trio. This allows the distinctive tobacco composition to be experienced in three clearly different vitolas – an appealing choice for aficionados looking to explore Honduran cigars and the Eiroa family’s tobacco tradition in greater depth.
