Drew Estate Factory Smokes Maduro

The Drew Estate Factory Smokes Maduro are the most affordable handmade cigars from Drew Estate. The series is aimed at aficionados looking for an uncomplicated Maduro cigar for everyday smoking. These cigars from Nicaragua are made entirely by hand (Totalmente a Mano) as medium fillers at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Estelí in the north of the country, not far from the Honduran border. The dark Maduro wrapper surrounds an Indonesian binder and filler tobaccos from the same country, creating a rather full-bodied character with earthy notes, espresso and black pepper. The Factory Smokes were first launched in the USA in 2018. The series was released there in a total of four variants, including a version with a sweetened tip. The first Factory Smokes arrived in Germany in spring 2026 through importer GRE. The Shade and Sun Grown were introduced first, followed in summer 2026 by the Maduro variant featured here.

Drew Estate Factory Smokes Maduro – the Darker Variant in the Series

Drew Estate was founded in the mid-1990s by Jonathan Drew and Marvin Samel. Jonathan Drew initially started out selling cigars in Manhattan before the company expanded to Estelí, Nicaragua, in 1998 and established its own production facility there. From these beginnings, Drew Estate grew into one of Nicaragua's best-known cigar manufacturers. Drew Estate has been part of the US company Swisher since 2014. Jonathan Drew returned to the company as president in 2017. He is and remains the face of the company – as well as its colorful character. His charisma and personality make him something of a “rock star” at cigar events – something we have experienced ourselves here at the Cigarworld Lounge. I will never forget him telling me that I definitely needed to “upgrade” my “sneaker game” – he was wearing Off-Whites that evening, while I was talking to customers in a plain pair of Nikes. :-)

Within the Factory Smokes series, the Maduro is the darkest and fullest-bodied variant. While the Shade is comparatively mild and creamy, and the Sun Grown is more strongly characterized by spice and earthy notes, the Maduro displays a distinctly more roasted profile. Typical flavors include earth, coffee or espresso, and pepper. This clearly sets it apart in flavor from the other two variants available in Germany, without pushing it into an exceptionally strong category.

The Drew Estate Factory Smokes Maduro Vitolas

In Germany, the Factory Smokes Maduro are available in Robusto, Toro and Gordito formats. The Robusto offers a comparatively compact smoking time, while the greater length of the Toro allows more time for the roasted flavors to develop. The Gordito has the largest ring gauge of the three formats, producing a comparatively cool, voluminous smoke. All three formats are handmade cigars and come in convenient bundles of 10.
