Luciano Maria Lucia
The story of Maria Lucia Cigars by Luciano Meirelles goes back to his mother, who passed away early in life. She was born in 1957 but sadly died when Luciano was only 12 years old. In Germany, Luciano is represented by our retail partner Salih Dalay from Saarbrücken. His company, Dalay Zigarren, distributes Luciano and his team’s products in the U.S. Meanwhile, the Luciano Cigars portfolio has grown quite extensive; currently, around ten different lines are available, which you can explore via the link above. The following part might sound a little spooky, but Luciano told us this story during his visit to the Cigarworld Lounge in Düsseldorf—and made it entirely believable.
Origin and Concept of the Maria Lucia Series
His daughter Deborah once had a dream about her grandmother, even though she had never seen her—not in person, nor in any photo. Inspired by this dream, she later drew a portrait of a woman that turned out to bear a remarkable resemblance to old photographs of her grandmother. This drawing by Deborah became the nucleus of the series and still defines the distinctive box design to this day. These Nicaraguan cigars are produced at the Luciano Cigar Factory. As always, the focus is on premium tobacco quality and a sincere interpretation of the concept—rather than flashy presentation.
Blend, Format, and Tasting Experience
These handmade longfillers are crafted for aficionados seeking an earthy, complex cigar without overwhelming strength or dominant sweetness. The series stands for balance and suits both seasoned connoisseurs and curious explorers looking for character beyond standard lines. The Maria Lucia Series debuted in a box-pressed vitola, 5 1/4 x 54, known as the Magnum, and was expanded with three additional formats in late 2025. For the wrapper, Luciano chose a U.S.-grown Connecticut Broadleaf, complemented by a double binder made of Ecuadorian Sumatra and H-92. The filler combines tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Peru. On the palate, it reveals a consistently earthy profile with dry, mineral notes, subtle spice, and a calm, controlled burn. Strength remains in the medium range. This cigar is aimed at those who appreciate depth and a serious, clearly defined flavor profile—a recommended choice for quiet evenings and mindful enjoyment.
