Plasencia Reserva Original

The cigars of the Plasencia family have almost certainly been enjoyed by every aficionado at least once. The family's various tobacco factories in Honduras and Nicaragua produce millions of cigars for a wide range of brands. A few that immediately come to mind are Casa Magna, Casa de Torres, Rocky Patel, Alec Bradley, and, for example, the cigars from Regius.

Plasencia Reserva Original Made from Organic Nicaraguan Tobacco

These very special and unique cigars are rolled from tobaccos grown without any herbicides or pesticides. That is why they were previously marketed under the name "Organic," which corresponds to the German term "Bio." All of the tobaccos come from Nicaragua. The filler, binder, and fine wrapper are all harvested from the rich, dark soils of this Central American country. After harvesting, the tobaccos are aged for at least three years before being crafted into cigars.

From the Organica Design to Reserva Original

These cigars were originally released with yellow and blue cigar bands featuring a stylized sun and clouds. Apparently, even the manufacturer eventually found the design a bit too kitschy, so it was completely redesigned. Today, each cigar is adorned with two cigar bands and presented in classic, solid brown wooden boxes. Since the summer of 2017, these cigars have been known as Reserva Original, as the name Organica could potentially lead to legal issues.

In the United States, these cigars are promoted with the claim that you can experience "the same flavor Christopher Columbus enjoyed during the discovery of the Americas." Whether that is true is impossible to verify, but it is certainly an appealing idea. What we do know is that, to the best of our knowledge, they are the only cigars on the German market made from certified organically grown tobacco.
