Victor Calvo Cincuenta
The Victor Calvo Cincuenta series was created to mark the 50th birthday of Victor Calvo Senior. It continues a tobacco tradition that began in the mid-1990s in Costa Rica. At the time, Victor Calvo was working at Tabacalera Tambor, where he laid the foundation for his own cigar line. A few years later, production moved to Estelí, Nicaragua, where cigars are now crafted in a dedicated factory—from tobacco cultivation to final quality control.
Background of the Victor Calvo Cincuenta Series
For the German market, the cigars reach Europe via Berlin: specialist retailer Sebastian Gollas imports the series and ensures that selected cigar shops have access to the limited editions. The Cincuenta line is intentionally produced in smaller quantities, as it reflects the personality and anniversary of the Calvo family. The series is currently offered in two formats: a distinctive Perfecto (double figurado) and an elegant Sublime in Gran Corona format.
Blend and Character of the Victor Calvo Cincuenta Cigars
The Victor Calvo Cincuenta combines Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos in the filler. A binder from the USA forms the base for the Ecuadorian wrapper, grown from Sumatra seed, which sets both the visual and aromatic tone. The result is a medium-bodied, balanced cigar with a complex aroma profile. On the palate, the series reveals notes of wood, nuts, and subtle roasted flavors reminiscent of coffee and dark chocolate. A gentle sweetness accompanies the spicy accents and gives the blend depth.
Impact of Format on Flavor
The Perfecto offers a dynamic play of aromas that noticeably evolves—mild at the start, more expressive in the middle, and spicier toward the end. The Sublime, on the other hand, emphasizes creaminess, balance, and an even development from the first light to the final third. Both formats reflect the factory’s craftsmanship and offer a profile well suited for moments of calm enjoyment.
