Condega Cigars from Northern Nicaragua

The cigar brand Condega takes its name from a small town and the surrounding valley in northern Nicaragua. Anyone who cannot immediately pinpoint Condega on a map need not worry about their knowledge of geography. Located north of Estelí, the valley is one of the country’s well-known tobacco-growing regions. The brand therefore regards its name as a tribute to the Valle de Condega. Its blends combine tobaccos from the three Nicaraguan growing regions of Condega, Jalapa and Estelí.

Casa Fernández and the People Behind Condega

Condega is part of the brand portfolio of Spanish tobacco company Gesinta. The cigars bearing its name are made in Nicaragua by Casa Fernández. The company now operates under the name Aganorsa Leaf. Its Tabacos Valle de Jalapa S.A. factory, known as TABSA, was named Factory of the Year by the American blog Halfwheel in both 2015 and 2016.

One of the key figures behind the blends was Master Blender Arsenio Ramos, a native of Pinar del Río. After almost five decades in the Cuban tobacco industry, he brought his expertise in seeds, cultivation and fermentation to Nicaragua. Cuban tobacco engineer Jacinto Iglesias also contributed to the selection and processing of the tobaccos. The versatility of the factory is also evident in Warped Cigars. The brand owned by American Kyle Gellis also has part of its portfolio produced there.

Condega Serie F, Serie S and Serie C

Solingen-based importer Thorsten Wolfertz brought Condega to Germany in 2017. By then, the brand was already firmly established in Spain. The concept remains clear to this day: handmade longfillers with a distinctly Nicaraguan character, reliable construction and a deliberately accessible price point.

The range centers on three distinct lines. The Serie F is a Nicaraguan puro featuring a Corojo 99 wrapper and binder with a filler of Criollo 98 and Corojo 99. Cedar, cinnamon, spices and a pronounced sweetness define its character. The Serie S combines a Corojo wrapper with Seco from Jalapa and filler tobaccos from Condega and Estelí. As the cigar develops, cedar and cinnamon mingle with pepper, fruity notes and dark chocolate.

Introduced in Germany in the summer of 2026, the Serie C takes a gentler approach: its Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper surrounds a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan filler. The result is creamier, milder and subtly woody and spicy. Visually, the line also stands apart from the brand’s red classics with its deep blue design.
