We help a friendly Swiss specialist retailer to sell the tobacco and use Cigarworld as a platform. During the check-out the prices will decrease due to the elimination of the VAT.
These are the remaining tins from the last production run of Dunhill tobaccos from 2018.
Ye Old Signe is one of the last reissues of older Dunhill tobaccos that were last available between the 1960s and 1980s. All tobaccos belong to the group of classic English blends and are completely natural.
After opening the tin, you can see a fairly homogeneous, reddish-brown tobacco appearance. The manufacturer states that only Virginia tobaccos are contained. Visually, this seems to be confirmed in the tobacco picture. The tobacco is quite finely cut, typical of Dunhill, but a little too moist. Leaving the tobacco open for a good 24 hours should do it good.
The smell is strawy and spicy, with a clear emphasis on the spiciness. It definitely smells much more mature than comparable cut Virginias. There is no hint of lemon, but the smell of cedar wood is clearly perceptible.
Due to the relatively fine cut, you have to be a little careful when plugging and not press too hard. You should also loosen the tobacco before you plug it, as it is very firmly pressed into the tin. Lighting the pipe is no problem at all, one or two matches and the pipe is lit. The first puffs are very light and tobacco-like with a subtle sweetness. Towards the middle, there is more spice and the nicotine content is also clearly noticeable. It is not a lightweight, but the development is somewhat linear. The tobacco cannot be described as really complex, but it does not become boring.
The burn is very clean, leaving very fine ash.
Conclusion: Ye Old Signe is an interesting addition to the Dunhill tobacco range. It is surprisingly powerful, but not very multi-faceted. It lives from its pronounced spiciness and subtle sweetness, which it retains throughout the filling. Smoked with a filter, the tobacco can probably be perceived as somewhat flat, but without a filter it is a delight!
