Marca Fina Brazil

The highly successful Marca Fina cigar family received another addition in spring 2012: Following the original version from Panama and the later expansions from the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Nicaragua, a new variety from Brazil is now available. As always, these cigars are rolled fairly tightly with a generous amount of filler tobacco, yet still offer an optimal draw. In fact, we find it quite pleasant that these affordable, smaller-format cigars don’t end up overly soft, but retain a stable and somewhat firmer shape.

Marca Fina: Variety and Flavor from Brazil

According to the manufacturer, these are fully hand-rolled longfillers – “totalmente a mano, tripa larga.” That’s not entirely convincing to us; in our opinion, they’re more like medium or sandwich fillers, depending on how you define it. The cigars we cut open contained a fair amount of smaller pieces in the filler. That’s not necessarily a problem in itself – but it might be more accurate to label them accordingly.

New Horizons: The Brazilian Expansion of the Marca Fina Family

In terms of flavor, this isn’t a disadvantage at all – what matters is the quality of the tobaccos available to the master blender. The mildly mellow and sweetish taste that’s typical of Brazil is clearly present here as well. The oily, fairly dark wrapper made from Mata Fina invites you to indulge: If you haven’t already, this Brazilian—or another from the region—definitely deserves a try!

These very affordable, well-made cigars are sold in bundles of 16 to keep production costs—and therefore prices—low. Initially, they came without cellophane or bands, which sometimes led to confusion in the humidor. They now come with an anilla (cigar band), so they’re easy to tell apart. However, to keep them budget-friendly, they’re still offered without cellophane in the bundle—continuing to deliver great value for money!

For a cellophaned and higher-quality alternative, we recommend the Regalia Fina or the Alonso Menendez, both also from Brazil. You can find an overview of all Marca Fina cigars here.
