Ashton Symmetry
The cigars Ashton Symmetry are the first newly introduced cigars under the Ashton brand in almost 10 years. Due to a shortage of raw tobacco at the manufacturer Arturo Fuente in the Dominican Republic, the market launch was somewhat delayed. According to Sathya Levin, Vice President of Ashton, this line was originally scheduled to be released in fall 2013, then fall 2014, and was ultimately only presented for the German market in September 2015 at Inter Tabac in Dortmund.
Ashton Symmetry: A New Era of Ashton Cigars with Nicaraguan Tobacco
An Ecuador-grown seed is used as the wrapper, while Dominican tobacco is used as the binder. The filler consists of tobaccos from Nicaragua and from the Fuentes’ home country, the Dominican Republic. Part of it is grown on the legendary farm Chateau Fuente, with a smaller portion cultivated in Villa Gonzalez. The Nicaraguan component comes from the family-owned farm “Un buen Vecino” (“The good neighbor”) near Estelí. All formats (vitolas) are slightly box-pressed, meaning they are not completely round but have a subtly squared appearance.
The Origin Story of Ashton Symmetry Cigars
The Ashton Symmetry cigars are the first under this label to be made with Nicaraguan tobaccos (though produced in the Dominican Republic). The first Nicaraguan cigars from the same company were previously the Paradiso cigars and the La Aroma del Caribe cigars, which are produced by Don Pepin Garcia at Tabacalera My Father Cigars. The Symmetry cigars are manufactured at Tabacalera Fuente in the Dominican Republic. These cigars were originally intended to be launched much earlier, but a fire in a warehouse belonging to the manufacturer, the Fuente family, significantly delayed delivery. They are medium-bodied cigars that, combined with a slight creaminess, delight the discerning aficionado. In the first third, aromas of leather dominate, followed by nuances of sweet figs, cinnamon, and even nougat.
