AVO Classic
Avo Uvezian was born in 1926 in Beirut, Lebanon, and passed away on March 24, 2017. The charismatic jazz musician of American-Armenian descent decided in the mid-1980s to launch his own cigar line. Since then, the cigar has been produced by Davidoff, and until his departure from the company also by the legendary Hendrik Kelner, the maker behind other renowned brands such as Davidoff and Zino. In the late 1990s, Avo sold his trademark rights to Davidoff/Oettinger; however, he continued to travel the world as a brand ambassador for the cigar line named after him.
AVO Classic Cigars: The Legacy of Jazz Musician Avo Uvezian
The cigars of the AVO Classic line embody Avo Uvezian’s philosophy in a truly unique way: “Cigars in Perfect Harmony,” and are a tribute to the very cigar blend with which Avo Uvezian celebrated his successful debut as a cigar composer in the “New World” in 1988.
The four carefully selected classic formats No. 2, No. 5, No. 9, and Robusto are characterized by a particularly harmonious tobacco blend and develop a mild yet delicately spicy aroma. “This is largely due to the Connecticut wrapper and the many years of aging of the filler,” said Avo Uvezian about the new series. As he himself confirmed, the Classic thus offers both loyal aficionados and beginners an unforgettable smoking experience.
The Development of the AVO Classic Cigar Line: A Harmonious Smoking Experience
The No. 2, a stately Toro format with a voluminous 50 ring gauge, is surpassed in length by the slightly slimmer Grand Corona format of the No. 5. The No. 9 is a Corona Extra format, where the term “Extra” indicates the slightly larger ring gauge. With the Robusto, the AVO quartet was finally complete. Currently, only the Robusto, the No. 6 Toro Grande, and the small Puritos remain available – all other vitolas have fallen victim to corporate cuts, as the sales volumes were (allegedly) no longer cost-covering.
