Davidoff Winston Churchill The Late Hour

The great British statesman and dedicated cigar enthusiast Winston Churchill lent his name to this cigar brand. In fact, there was already a Nicaraguan longfiller series on the German market in the 1990s, distributed by Dannemann (!). However, it was not particularly successful, and the brand rights were eventually sold to Oettinger/Davidoff. In 2008, the first longfillers under this name were introduced by Davidoff, only to be replaced in 2014 as part of a relaunch by the current Winston Churchill cigars.

Winston Churchill The Late Hour: An Exceptional Cigar Creation by Davidoff

This line has been so successful worldwide that, in autumn 2017, an additional series with the distinctive name “The Late Hour” was introduced. The wrapper is an Ecuadorian H-2000 in the color marron oscuro, paired with a Mexican San Andrés Negro binder. The filler consists of three Dominican tobaccos (Olor Visus, Piloto Seco, and San Vicente Mejorado Visus) and two Nicaraguan tobaccos (Estelí Visus and Condega Visus), one of which undergoes a special treatment. This Condega Visus is aged for six months in barrels that previously held Speyside single malt Scotch whisky. This—especially for Davidoff—unusual approach gives the full-bodied cigar a pleasant sweetness and notable complexity. The manufacturer highlights notes of black pepper, dark coffee, sweetness, wood, leather, and spice—enjoy discovering them for yourself! :-)

One piece of good news: the limited edition Petit Panetela, introduced in 2020, has been permanently added to the Late Hour core range. Fans of this format no longer have to rely on remaining stock and can now order this handy cigar at any time.

At the Golden Band Awards 2017 during InterTabac in Dortmund, we had the pleasure of sitting at the table of Sir Winston Churchill’s great-grandson. Randolph Churchill’s distinctly dry British humor made the evening particularly memorable. We were also delighted to receive this award, enabling us to offer our customers even more special selections from Davidoff in the future.
