Macanudo Inspirado Black

These cigars are the first expansion of the regular (orange) Inspirado series introduced in 2014. This was launched for Germany in our neighboring city of Neuss.

The Macanudo Inspirado Black gets its name from its dark wrapper, which comes from the USA. This seed is grown and harvested in the Connecticut Valley in the state of the same name on the East Coast of the USA. For the binder, Dominican tobacco was used, and for the filler, the manufacturer, Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG), blended Dominican Olor and Piloto with additional fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras.

Since 2018, the line has been "reconfigured." On one hand, two new formats have been introduced, the Robusto and the Toro, and on the other hand, the blend has been changed. The wrapper is now a dark Connecticut Broadleaf, the binder is now an Ecuadorian Sumatra, and the filler consists of Nicaraguan tobaccos from the Esteli region. To summarize, the Connecticut Maduro became a Connecticut Broadleaf, and the ligero in the filler was removed. This change results in the "new" two formats being milder and burning more evenly. This was often an issue with the "old" version due to uneven burning of the ligero and problems with the wrapper. The two versions can be easily distinguished by their different bands. The "old" ones are no longer in production; we only sell our remaining stock.

Both the original Macanudo Inspirado Orange and this new one introduced here were initially not distributed in the USA but were exclusives for the international cigar market. At the launch in Europe, only two vitolas were introduced: a Gordito with a length of 4.5 inches and a ring gauge of 54, and a Canonazo with a 52-ring gauge and a length of 5.75 inches. The Gigante has been added since, and the distribution has also expanded to the USA.

Since the 1980s, Macanudos have been one of the best-selling cigars in the United States. This cigar brand is mainly known for the classic, milder Macanudo Café and the slightly sweet and aromatic Maduros. Additionally, there have been many Limited Editions and vintage cigars.

The brand traces its origins back to the 19th century, with numerous Cubans settling in Jamaica in 1868. Around 1940, the Macanudo brand name was first used as a format designation. After the brand was sold to General Cigar (a subsidiary of STG) in 1968, things really took off. The first Macanudos were still produced in Jamaica, but by the 1990s, they were exclusively rolled in the Dominican Republic.
