Metropolitan Connecticut

Like most other products in the Ferio Tego portfolio, the Metropolitan Connecticut is also a former brand of Nat Sherman, the traditional cigar retailer from New York City that was sold to Altria in 2017. Altria was more interested in the name and the company’s cigarette business, so just two years later the cigar and pipe division of the products bearing the illustrious Nat Sherman name was completely discontinued. Apparently, they no longer wanted anything to do with “simple, burning” old-school tobacco – fair enough!

Metropolitan – Tradition and Revival

This led to a delayed Management Buy Out, as the former head of the cigar division, Michael Herklots, and his former colleague Brendon Scott were able to buy back the lines they had originally created for their previous employer. Together, they founded the cigar distribution company Ferio Tego in 2021, which subsequently had the same cigar lines produced by the same manufacturers as before. In total, there are five different tobacco blends available internationally. Initially, the Metropolitan Connecticut presented here and the Metropolitan Maduro Cigars arrived in Germany in spring 2026. Both are manufactured by the Quesada family in the Dominican Republic. I’ve just lit up an Explorer to properly assess the flavor profile!

Metropolitan Connecticut – Mild Enjoyment

In addition, Philipp Kugler of Cigarkings, the importer for the German market, has added the Timeless Cigars and the Ferio Tego Summa to his distribution portfolio. The Metropolitan Connecticut combines a light, elegant Connecticut wrapper with carefully selected Dominican filler and binder tobaccos. The result is a mild to medium-bodied smoking profile with a creamy texture, subtle wood and caramel notes, and an even burn. Unfortunately, my sample was somewhat rough at the beginning; the typically tart flavor of Connecticut wrappers affected the first impression. In the second and final third, however, the Explorer behaved “as expected” – more harmonious and slightly creamier.

Metropolitan Connecticut – Variants and Flavor Profiles

The Metropolitan Connecticut impresses with its balanced profile: creamy notes dominate, supported by subtle wood and caramel aromas. The draw is smooth and the burn even. The series is available in several vitolas, making it suitable for both shorter and longer moments of enjoyment.

  • University (Toro) – slim format for a short to medium smoking experience.
  • Union (Robusto) – rounded flavor, ideal for a medium-length smoke.
  • Piramide (Explorer) – longer and slightly stronger, perfect for relaxed evenings.

Thanks to their balanced strength and classic Connecticut character, Metropolitan Connecticut Cigars are an excellent choice for anyone seeking a versatile premium cigar with a traditional, rather mild profile.
