Metropolitan Maduro

Like most other products in the Ferio Tego portfolio, the Metropolitan Maduro is also a former brand of Nat Sherman, the traditional cigar shop from New York City that was sold to Altria in 2017. Altria was primarily interested in the brand name and the cigarette lines, so the cigar and pipe division of Nat Sherman was completely discontinued just two years later. Lovers of the classic cigar and pipe tobacco brands therefore had to forgo the well-known premium cigars and tobaccos for a short time.

Metropolitan – Tradition and Revival

Through a management buyout, the former head of the cigar division Michael Herklots and his colleague Brendon Scott were able to repurchase the lines they had developed. In 2021, they founded the cigar distribution company Ferio Tego, which had the well-known cigar lines reproduced by their previous manufacturers. Internationally, there are a total of five different tobacco blends, including the Metropolitan Connecticut and the Metropolitan Maduro presented here, which were launched on the German market in 2026. Both series are manufactured by the Quesada family in the Dominican Republic. The Maduro variant features a significantly darker, fuller character that offers the aficionado a more demanding experience.

Metropolitan Maduro – Rich Indulgence

The Metropolitan Maduro combines a dark, oily Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper with carefully selected Dominican filler and binder tobaccos. The smoking profile is medium to full-bodied, with chocolatey and leathery notes supported by a pleasant sweetness. The burn is even, the draw full-bodied, and the aromas unfold harmoniously throughout the entire smoking time. My sample developed into a particularly complex flavor experience in the middle third, showcasing the dark Maduro character excellently. The series is available in various vitolas, catering to both short smoking breaks and extended moments of enjoyment:

• University (Toro) – longer format, ideal for a medium-length smoking experience.
• Union (Robusto) – compact, harmonious smoke with intense aroma.
• Piramide (Explorer) – longer cigar for relaxed evenings with a special format, fuller in flavor.
