PDR Capa Natural (Shade Grown)

Abe Flores and his Tabacalera PDR Cigars in Tamboril have been shaking up the market for Dominican cigars since 2010. He has made a very good name for himself in the cigar industry, both with his own series such as the PDR, and with numerous other brands like Gurkha Ghost or La Palina Black Label.

The PDR Capa Natural cigars presented here are known in the USA by the full name Cubano Especial Capa Natural, which, due to trademark reasons, cannot be used in Europe. Hence, the shorter name for us, which only emphasizes the lighter Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, which is noticeably lighter compared to the other PDR cigar series.

The designation also refers to the fact that these cigars are rolled in the more elaborate Cuban Entubado style. As mentioned earlier, an Ecuadorian wrapper is rolled over a Dominican Criollo 98 binder, which in turn encloses filler tobaccos from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.

These cigars are the mildest in the PDR series (the abbreviation stands for Pinar del Rio) and can be classified as mild to medium-bodied. Overall, they carry slight floral and herbal notes and are very smooth. A little sweet vanilla and some wood combine to create a very pleasant and uncomplicated smoke. Both vitolas offered in Germany by the exclusive importer Don Stefano from Hesse have a slightly larger ring gauge of 52 and only differ in length. The shorter Robusto is exactly 4 inches, and the Toro is exactly 5 inches long, which is equivalent to 15.24 centimeters.
