Meerapfel Machetero Exclusiva
The first Machetero cigars were already available from us back in 2013. At that time, we received a call from Jeremiah Meerapfel in Brussels, along with an invitation to lunch in the Belgian capital, where the family still maintains its headquarters. We ended up discussing the topic of the family's private label cigars on a sunny terrace in Brussels. At the time – aside from cultivating Cameroon wrappers – they were exclusively acting as intermediaries for Arturo Fuente cigars, Ashton cigars, and Padron cigars outside of the U.S. Shortly thereafter, we imported these cigars to Germany for the first time.
Jeremiah Meerapfel and the Split From Fuente: A New Beginning With the Machetero Series
In retrospect, it was undoubtedly a strategically smart move to already be exploring the idea of creating and establishing an in-house brand back then. Especially in light of the final separation between the Meerapfel family and the Fuente family regarding distribution in September 2025, this step proves to be all the more significant. With that, distribution for Ashton, Padron, and Fuente came to an end in the summer of 2025 — a development that was likely not economically favorable for the Meerapfel family, especially since Fuente also completely ceased purchasing Cameroon wrappers for the Arturo Fuente Don Carlos cigars.
Oscuro Wrapper and Creamy Notes: The Flavor of Machetero Exclusiva
Unfortunately, the family does not disclose all the details about the cigars, so we can only confirm that the wrapper comes from Nicaragua; as for the binder and filler, that remains a mystery. Even when it comes to the factory, we can only say that these cigars are produced in Honduras — but the exact location remains undisclosed. The following text is closely modeled on the official wording, as we simply lack further details. So yes, it definitely doesn't sound like a “typical” text from us:
With the Machetero Exclusiva, you experience what happens when a modern classic is redefined: rich, layered, and yet thoroughly smooth — made for aficionados who value flavor without drama, but with character. Smooth, sweet, and refined. The Machetero Exclusiva cigars are part of the Selection Collection and celebrate elegance in every detail. Their secret lies in a specially developed blend of filler and binder, wrapped in a supple, aromatic Oscuro wrapper. Each puff reveals creamy notes of dark sugar, accompanied by a velvety finish — depth, complexity, and a hint of sweetness in perfect harmony.
I lit up a Machetero Exclusiva Robusto for testing, and the flavor profile I experienced actually comes pretty close to the “marketing” description! We assume there’s some Brazilian tobacco in the blend somewhere, which likely brings that smooth sweetness and nuttiness to the table.
Machetero Cigars: Meerapfel Family’s Private Label With Honduran Production
These cigars from Honduras are now distributed in Germany through Meerapfel Distribution, after a short-lived cooperation with the Kleinlagel family came to an end. The traditional house is regarded as a symbol of uncompromising quality and fine tobacco craftsmanship. Its luxury lines like Meerapfel Meir and Meerapfel Ernest embody the same passion that also defines the Machetero Series — precision craftsmanship and characterful enjoyment.
