Tatascan Connecticut
Just like the more affordable Rancho Luna Cigars, the Tatascan Cigars were also launched in Germany in two lines in the summer of 2025. The importer is once again our retail partner Sebastian Gollas from Berlin, who by now offers a truly impressive and diverse portfolio as a distributor. The cigars just mentioned, along with the ones presented here, were originally introduced in the U.S. back in 2016.
Family Eiroa and JRE Tobacco: Cigar Brands with a Double Heritage
Behind these brands is a branch of the Eiroa family, specifically father Julio and son Justo Eiroa, who launched various “house cigars” under the JRE Tobacco Company label. Alongside Rancho Luna and Tatascan, this also includes their premium longfillers, which are offered worldwide under the Aladino Cigars name. The “other” son Christian operates independently and sells his lines in Germany under the names CLE Cigars and Eiroa Cigars, imported by Schuster Cigars. It's kind of intriguing that two parts of the same family go through different importers – apparently, there may have been some minor disputes in the past that led to this. In any case: I clearly remember sitting next to Justo Eiroa one evening at the Inter Tabac in Dortmund in 2024 – he was an extremely pleasant conversationalist and showed no sign at all of any family tension. Very diplomatic indeed!
Rancho Luna, Tatascan, and Aladino: JRE’s Portfolio Now Available in Germany
Tatascan Cigars come in bright yellow, highly eye-catching wooden boxes and are offered in two different versions. The Tatascan line is made as mediumfillers (sometimes referred to as mixed fillers or Cuban sandwiches). This means the filler is made from cuttings or smaller pieces of tobacco leaves. This is by no means an indication of inferior tobacco – often, trimmings from premium longfillers, which are significantly more expensive, are used. Quite the opposite: because mediumfillers use smaller tobacco pieces, the filler blend can be more evenly mixed, often resulting in a more consistent flavor than longfillers.
Tatascan Cigars with Sweet Tip: A Medium-Bodied Experience from Honduras
Both the Connecticut wrapper version and the Sun Grown wrapper option come with a sweetened cap (“Sweet Tip”). This is also known as “dipped” – literally dipped. The tobaccos themselves are not flavored; only the cap is dipped in a small bowl of sugarcane syrup. This gives cigar lovers a sweet taste on the lips and in the mouth without the tobacco itself being flavored. Over the course of the smoke, this effect diminishes noticeably, allowing the “classic” tobacco flavor to shine through. There's usually no middle ground here – people either love it or hate it. Judging by the sales figures of cigars like the Drew Estate Tabak Especial Cigars, there’s clearly a large and growing fanbase for this style – after all, taste isn’t up for debate!
