Esteban Carreras Bronze Cross

With the Esteban Carreras Bronze Cross, the US-Nicaraguan brand introduced a series to Germany in spring 2026 that deliberately sets itself apart from classic Nicaragua blends. The cigars are crafted box pressed and combine Nicaraguan filler tobaccos with a Nicaraguan Jalapa binder and a Sumatra wrapper also grown in Nicaragua. The result is a medium-bodied to full-bodied smoking profile that, despite its depth, remains remarkably well balanced. The additional aging of the tobaccos used ensures a smooth, creamy progression in this Puro cigar, making the series particularly appealing to aficionados seeking complex Cigars from Nicaragua with notes of wood, nuts, and even a hint of cocoa.

Tasting Notes of the Bronze Cross Cigars

My test cigar was a Toro, which personally struck me as more mild to medium in strength. Without pepper or other rough edges, it was a highly enjoyable smoke. From time to time, I really appreciate these angular box pressed cigars. The band somehow reminds me of the Rocky Patel Disciple Cigars – whoever came to market first, the design is definitely very successful. The series name goes back to the Cuban Esteban Carreras. The historical freedom fighter risked his life to help people escape when Fidel Castro came to power. The brand honors this courage and its Cuban roots. At the time, crosses were reportedly painted on door frames as a sign of support for Esteban. Where have we heard that before? Exactly. The best-known tradition of crosses on doors here takes place around January 6. Carol singers write the year and the letters C+M+B in chalk on door frames. The crosses between the letters stand for the blessing and the Holy Trinity. The letters stand for Christus mansionem benedicat (“May Christ bless this house”). Learned something new again, right? ;-)

Esteban Carreras Bronze Cross: Homage to an Early Explorer

This is also the origin of the name of the initially introduced Esteban Carreras Black Cross Cigars, which were launched even before the cigars presented in the USA in 2015. The Black Cross Cigars have not yet made it across the Atlantic – let’s see what the current importer Kopp Tobaccos may have in store for us in the future. The portfolio of Esteban Carreras Cigars is already very extensive. Naturally, we offer all cigars of this brand available in Germany. The cigars are manufactured entirely in Nicaragua, where founder and owner Craig Cunningham has been working for years with experienced torcedores and well-aged tobaccos.
