The Hawaiian Breeze cigar series by Esteban Carreras currently consists of only one vitola, the so-called Kona. “Kona” in Hawaiian means the leeward side, referring to the west side of the main island Big Island, which is known for its dry and sunny climate. For the wrapper, master blender Gonzalo Puentes chose a Nicaraguan Connecticut, paired with a Dominican binder and a filler blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos. Puentes is a seasoned expert with over 50 years of cigar-making experience. He spent decades in the Cuban tobacco industry and even earned a doctorate in agricultural science in Havana. Together with Craig Cunningham, owner and CEO of Tabacalera Esteban Carreras, he has brought extensive craftsmanship and a deep understanding of tobacco aging to every series since the early 2000s. For its German launch in summer 2025, the importer Kopp Tobaccos selected a portfolio of five Esteban Carreras Zigarren series. These are cigars from Nicaragua, offering a wide aromatic spectrum that should have something to offer for every aficionado.

To make his boutique cigar brand even more successful internationally, Craig brought in the expertise of Christopher Mey. He worked for over 20 years with Rocky Patel Zigarren before starting his own business, where he now focuses on helping smaller cigar brands expand internationally.
