Leonel No. 511

The Leonel No. 511 cigar line has been presented in a new design and with a revised tobacco blend since summer 2025. It is now produced in the Dominican Republic, where most of the tobaccos used are also grown. With this relaunch, it bridges the gap between the mild Leonel White Cigars and the medium-bodied Leonel Rare Cigars, thus covering another segment within the extensive Leonel Cigars portfolio.

Leonel No. 511: New Tobacco Blend From the Dominican Republic

Five different filler tobaccos, a Dominican binder, and a golden-brown Colorado Claro wrapper from the U.S. form the foundation of the current blend. The result is a complex yet harmoniously balanced smoking experience, marked by creaminess and a fine balance of leathery, nutty, roasted, and woody notes. The strength is in the mild to medium-bodied range. Visually, the series also presents itself in a modernized design: a royal blue cigar band and a tastefully crafted 20-count box with magnetic closure emphasize its elegant character. Currently, the line is offered in just two vitolas, the two classic formats Robusto and Toro Gordo.

From Nicaragua to the Dominican Republic: The Evolution of Leonel No. 511

The history of Leonel No. 511 dates back to 2014, when the series was first introduced alongside the Terre Rouge line. Back then, the “5” in the name stood for the number of different Nicaraguan filler tobaccos. The Nicaraguan wrapper in Colorado Claro grade – shade-grown and therefore particularly fine and golden-shimmering – gave the cigars their elegant appearance.

The Original Leonel No. 511 From Nicaragua

In terms of flavor, the first generation of Leonel No. 511 Cigars ranged from medium-bodied to full-bodied. Right from the first light, they revealed a multitude of aromas that developed in a rounded and balanced way. A creamy undertone enhanced the overall smooth impression. The original lineup was broader, including four formats ranging from the slim Corona to the bold Toro Gordo. In 2016, the Belicoso vitola was added. It becomes clear: the current Leonel No. 511 is not merely a reissue, but a deliberate evolution of the original series. With the shift in production location and the updated blend, the profile has been realigned – without losing the ambition to offer a complex yet accessible smoking experience.
