Villiger 1888 Nicaragua
The brand Villiger Zigarren hardly needs any introduction. Named after the grand seigneur of the cigar industry, Heinrich Villiger, it has been producing and distributing cigarillos and handmade cigars for decades. The Dominican cigar line 1888 was originally launched in 2008 to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the manufacturer and was "modernized" a few years ago. Given the steadily rising popularity of Nicaragua among aficionados, creating a Nicaraguan series was a natural next step. And here they are: initially available in only three classic formats—Coronita, Robusto, and Toro. Meanwhile, the range has expanded, adding a Gordo and Perfecto to offer cigar lovers even more choice. Reflecting the colors of the Nicaraguan national flag, the cigar band prominently features blue complemented by elegant gold accents.
Heinrich Villiger and the Success Story of Villiger Zigarren
Since the early 2020s, this traditional company has been running its own tabacalera (cigar factory) on the grounds of Tabacalera Joya de Nicaragua in the Central American country. Since October 2021, these premium cigars, among others, have been rolled in Estelí, the heart of Nicaragua’s cigar industry. Alongside its exceptional soils, Nicaragua’s ideal climatic conditions make it uniquely suited—along with the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Honduras—for producing superb long-fillers.
Villiger 1888 Nicaragua: Premium Cigars from Central America
Villiger 1888 Nicaragua cigars are mostly rolled from local tobaccos. The filler consists of Jalapa Seco (medium-bodied with coffee aromas), Jalapa Viso (rather mild), a stronger Condega Ligero, as well as Pennsylvania tobacco from the USA. The binder is also Nicaraguan, while the wrapper originates from Ecuador. The result is a medium-bodied smoke offering a pleasantly aromatic experience without becoming harsh or even peppery. Notes of chocolate and honey round off the flavor profile. Nicaragua offers an exceptionally wide range of excellent cigars—browse our selection of additional Nicaraguan cigars, and enjoy exploring!
