With unknown tobaccos, I like to give the advice to open the tin and let the tobacco air for an hour first.
It's stupid if you don't follow your own advice!
Out of sheer Perique greed, I opened the lid, filled a pipe in no time and lit it...
The name means something like sea breeze. You know those scenes in the films where someone looks dreamily at the calm water glistening in the sun under their boat... and suddenly a shark's head pops out? That's what happened to me and the shark bit into my tongue!
What is that? I love Perique, yes...but I tasted nothing else! I thought to myself, somewhat horrified, that someone had probably mixed up the dosage. Ok, first of all I had to take a step back and wait an hour or two with the can open.
New attempt: the miraculous transformation! Now it smells of chocolate burley, grassy Virginia and, in the background, the fruity dry fruit flavour of Perique that I love so much.
The Perique is immediately present in the flavour and I would have been sad if it hadn't been. A beautifully coloured, spicy background with port wine, sultanas and a hint of vinegar and lemon. Rich but not strong, spicy but not overpowering.
As with the other candidates, TW has achieved a great balance here too.
...and if you remember to ventilate, you will also be spared the shark attack. That's a fine breeze! Very delicous!
