Davidoff Escurio

Two years after the introduction of Davidoff cigars with Nicaraguan tobaccos, the Davidoff Escurio cigars with Brazilian tobaccos were presented in the summer of 2015. Like the Davidoff Nicaragua, this series is manufactured in the Tabacalera of the Oettinger Davidoff Group in the Dominican Republic. For better categorization, we have placed these cigars in the "Brazil" section. Along with the Nicaragua and Davidoff Yamasa, they form the so-called "Discovery" portfolio of the renowned Swiss company.

A sun-grown Ecuadorian wrapper is used for the wrapper, and the binder is a so-called "Cubra" from Brazil. This Cubra is also a sun-grown tobacco that, according to the manufacturer, acquires a special, more cultivated note through cultivation in Brazil. In the filler, a Brazilian Cubra and Mata Fina are used, blended with Dominican Olor and San Vincente. The series initially consisted of three formats: the largest vitola is the Gran Toro, in addition to a classic Robusto and a Petit Robusto. The latter is also offered in tubes. Numerous additional vitolas have since been added to the series.

The respected Austrian cigar magazine Cigar Journal awarded one format from this series a fantastic 93 points in a blind tasting. The taste was described as sweet and spicy, and the complexity of these products was described as an "explosion of different notes." Davidoff itself speaks of chili pepper and softer, creamier notes that blend with wood, licorice, fruits, salt, and leather throughout the smoking experience.

Interestingly, there is also an accessory line associated with this series, consisting of two cigar cases, a cigar punch, and a jet-flame lighter. The highlight of this Escurio accessory line is the color combination, which combines the classic black with touches of yellow and green, inspired by the Brazilian flag.

We received the initial delivery of Davidoff Escurio on September 28, 2015, and were very curious to see how this further expansion of the portfolio, following Nicaragua in 2013, would fare in the market. It can now be said that these cigars polarize - you either love them or hate them! The flavor profile is truly "special" but also has its fans. The next addition will be the one with Cuban tobacco, as far as we are informed.... ;-)

In August 2016, the Corona Gorda and Gran Perfecto vitolas were added, and since then, the Primeros and cigarillos have also been introduced. Additionally, a Primeros, a 6x60 format, and a limited edition Gran Torpedo have been added as well.
