Davidoff Nicaragua

Finally, what many of us had long been waiting for – and what some considered impossible – has happened: in 2013, Davidoff introduced a cigar line made from Nicaraguan tobaccos. Initially launched in just three vitolas (Short Corona, Toro and Robusto Tubos), the majestic Diademas was added in 2014, followed by further vitolas later on. The new Davidoffs are crafted entirely from Nicaraguan tobaccos under the supervision of Hendrik Kelner (until 2020) at the Davidoff manufactory in the Dominican Republic. The filler tobaccos come from Estelí, Condega and Ometepe, while the binder was grown in Jalapa. The Nicaraguan puros are completed with a ten-year-aged Rosado wrapper.

Davidoff Nicaragua Cigars: Nicaraguan Puro with Tobaccos from Estelí, Condega and Ometepe

The cigars start off peppery in the first third, then become milder and slightly sweet. Notes of roasted aromas, coffee and dark chocolate are noticeable. Toward the end, they become significantly stronger while developing a very pleasant creaminess. This new release has since received numerous awards; among others, the Robusto AT was named Cigar of the Year 2013 by the Austrian Cigar Journal. The best-selling Nicaraguan Davidoffs are certainly the small Primeros, which, as medium fillers, naturally cannot match the flavor complexity of the large long fillers. Our recommendation is definitely the large Diadema for special moments.

“Black Band Cigars” by Davidoff: Nicaragua, Escurio, Yamasa and Puro Dominicano at a Glance

Since then, the Brazilian Davidoff Escurio cigars were introduced in 2015, the Dominican Davidoff Yamasa cigars in 2016, and finally the Davidoff Puro Dominicano in 2026. These lines belong to the so-called “Black Band Cigars”, which, in contrast to the classic “White Band Cigars”, are blended with more body and in a more “un-Davidoff” style to appeal to new target groups of experimental cigar aficionados.
