Casdagli Villa Casdagli
The Casdagli Cigars were known worldwide under the name Bespoke Cigars until 2018/2019. Subsequently, Jeremy Casdagli, the founder and owner, had to change the name due to trademark issues in the United States. He chose the name of the Cairo district in which the former family residence, Villa Kersal, was located. Later, Villa Kersal became Villa Casdagli, which served as the center of the family in the early 1900s and thus gave its name to Casdagli Cigars. In the summer of 2021, this second cigar line of the brand from Costa Rica was named accordingly.
Casdagli Cigars: A Journey From Bespoke Cigars to the Villa Casdagli
Up to that point, Jeremy had all of his Casdagli cigars produced at the Kelner Boutique Factory KBF of Hendrik Kelner Jr. in the Dominican Republic. It was not until 2019, with the Daughters of the Wind Line Cigars, that he expanded to Costa Rica, where they are produced by the small Tabacalera IGM of Don Olman Guzman in Puriscal. The Villa Casdagli Cigars are entirely hand-rolled and are, of course, longfiller, meaning they are rolled from whole tobacco leaves.
From Cairo to Costa Rica: The Fascinating History of Casdagli Cigars
The blend of these cigars from Costa Rica is similar to that of the Daughters of the Wind, which were initially produced exclusively for the US market. This means that the filler consists of Peruvian, Dominican, and Nicaraguan tobaccos, topped by an binder from Ecuador and a wrapper from Ecuador. The Villa Casdagli Cigars are produced at Tabacos de Costa Rica S.A., formerly known as Vegas Santiago. The design of the band and the boxes is also inspired by the Villa Casdagli in Cairo, Egypt, the residence of the patriarch Emmanuel Casdagli in the early 1900s.
