Casdagli Basilica
The filler of these perfectly balanced cigars consists of Dominican Seco and Abajo Viso, Peruvian Pelo D’Oro Viso, and Nicaraguan Viso from Jalapa. As a special feature, Hendrik Kelner Junior (the son of the legendary blender of Davidoff cigars) incorporated a double binder. He chose a Dominican so-called H-192 as well as a Nicaraguan leaf from Condega. The wrapper, in turn, is a Brazilian Cubra, a hybrid derived from classic seed stock.
Casdagli Basilica: A Masterpiece in Blending and Design
The blend was initially created to appeal to potential customers in the Middle East. In addition to the typical creamy sweetness characteristic of many Bespoke cigars, there is also a distinct citrus note that was consistently well received in tastings across the region. The name is no coincidence either: Basilica was the name given by the Greeks to the cannon used by the Ottomans during the 13th-century siege of Constantinople. Furthermore, the gunpowder for this monster—pulled by 600 men—came from Egypt. For Jeremy Casdagli, the founder and owner of this brand with British-Greek-Egyptian roots, the name was therefore almost inevitable.
Numerous formats have now made their way to Germany. We believe that the importer, the Kleinlagel siblings from Bruchsal, is once again set for a surprise success. Interestingly, the strong reputation of these cigars first spread through Eastern Europe and the Middle East, then to Europe, and only later to the United States. Here you can find an overview of all cigars from Casdagli Cigars available from us.
The Fascinating Story Behind the Casdagli Basilica Cigars
A brief note on the name of these cigars: originally marketed under the name Bespoke cigars, they were renamed Casdagli Cigars in 2019 due to trademark disputes between Alan Rubin of Alec Bradley and Jeremy Casdagli. The blends, the logo featuring the Colossus of Rhodes, the formats, and the prices – everything remains identical and exactly as before!
