El Septimo Gilgamesh

This cigar series from the premium manufacturer El Septimo is named after King Gilgamesh, who is believed to have been the king of the Sumerians. This kingdom existed roughly between 3000 and 2500 BC and was located in southern Mesopotamia, present-day Iraq. Enough history? Very well—let’s get back to the cigars.

We have been importing El Septimo cigars exclusively for several years and have since built up an impressive portfolio of these unusual, rare, and often quite costly cigars. The three vitolas presented here are the first from this brand to feature a 50 ring gauge. This diameter is, for example, a standard size for a classic Robusto.

El Septimo Gilgamesh: A Cigar Series Inspired by Ancient Mesopotamia

The Gilgamesh (also spelled Gilgamesch) cigars are made entirely from 100% Costa Rican tobacco. The Aqua Anu format consists of tobacco aged for up to ten years, resulting in a medium body, while the Sable Samash uses tobacco aged for up to six years, making it somewhat stronger. The “king,” King Sargon, is the strongest of these three variants. The name of this luxury cigar brand, “the Seventh,” refers to the seventh day, on which, according to the biblical creation story, humankind is meant to rest. God, too, rested after six demanding and creative days. Loosely translated or interpreted, this means that the aficionado should simply enjoy themselves and their life in peace and with gratitude for as long as they are allowed to remain on this planet.

Luxury and History: The Unique Gilgamesh Cigars by El Septimo

The brand was originally founded in 2005 by Gilles Botquin and was eventually acquired in 2019 by US real estate mogul Zaya S. Younan. As a passionate cigar smoker, he fulfilled a lifelong dream with this acquisition and regards his cigars from Costa Rica as the “pinnacle of perfection” in cigar production.
