El Septimo Zaya (15 Year Tobacco)

The name of this luxury cigar brand El Septimo can be translated as “the Seventh.” This does not refer to a general ranking, but to the seventh day on which, according to the biblical creation story, God rested after six strenuous days of “creative work.” On this day, the believer (or, in this case, the aficionado) should rest and look upon their work with benevolence. Applied to the meaning of El Septimo cigars, this signifies taking the time to view oneself and one’s life calmly and with gratitude, and simply enjoying the fact that one is allowed to dwell on this planet (at least temporarily).

Formerly Diamond, Now Zaya

So much for philosophy! The cigar brand was founded in 2005 by Gilles Botquin and was marketed primarily in Europe. In 2019, the brand was acquired by US real estate mogul Zaya S. Younan, who made his fortune in the US real estate sector in the 2000s. He has since focused on acquiring castles in France and operating them as hotels. As a passionate cigar smoker, he fulfilled a personal dream with this luxury brand and regards his cigars as the “pinnacle of perfection” in cigar production. In this context, the series formerly known as “Diamond” was renamed “Zaya” after the company owner.
