El Septimo Sacred Arts
Since 2019, the cigars from El Septimo have been available from us. Originally a Swiss brand, El Septimo has been producing top-quality, exclusive cigars in Costa Rica for many years. This Central American country is known as the Switzerland of Central America—not only because of its particularly idyllic mountain landscape, but also due to its comparatively high wage levels, which in turn make the prices of these cigars from Costa Rica somewhat higher.
El Septimo Cigars: The Exclusive Sacred Arts Collection
During our visit to the PCA tobacco trade show in the spring of 2024, our path naturally also led us to El Septimo Cigars. There we met an old acquaintance: the American Chip Goldeen, who has since risen to the position of International Sales Manager. He previously worked for Ashton Cigars before retiring—well deserved, at least in theory. Apparently, retirement proved too quiet for him. Missing the tension and hustle, he gladly accepted a request from El Septimo owner Zaya Younan and returned to his beloved cigar industry. At the booth, he gave us a detailed tour and explained the different lines and the ideas behind them. These cigars are certainly not for everyone or for every day, but there are enough aficionados of such specialties that we were happy to expand our portfolio. Here we present the cigars of the The Sacred Arts Collection. These exclusive cigars are a tribute to the great artists of past centuries who have had a lasting influence on the art world.
Great Artists as Inspiration for Arts Collection Cigars
The very large and striking Diadema with the shimmering name Van Gogh is a favorite of owner and CEO Zaya Younan. It ideally represents the seventh day of Creation, on which God rested, and is the ultimate slow-down cigar for a relaxed Sunday. The Van Gogh is wrapped in a dark, oily wrapper and offers malty and chocolatey notes that blend with woody, nutty, and chocolaty nuances.
The Salvador Dali is a Toro with the classic dimensions of 6x54, dedicated to Christ and Saint John of the Cross. It represents the fifth day of Creation, when God created the creatures of the sea and the birds. This cigar features a dark and oily wrapper that develops notes of coffee with the very first light, followed by medium-bodied, sweet vanilla aromas.
The El Septimo Sacred Arts Rembrandt is a Torpedo measuring 7x54, dedicated to the Return of the Prodigal Son. It represents the sixth day of Creation, when God created man and animals. This vitola delivers two hours of perfectly balanced, medium-bodied enjoyment with chocolate notes. Fun fact: It was the Celebration Cigar of choice for Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023, and again their choice when they won the Super Bowl for the second consecutive time in 2024 against the San Francisco 49ers.
The Michelangelo is a 5.5x50 Perfecto dedicated to the Creation of Adam. It represents the second day of Creation, when God created the heavens. An attractive Perfecto with an oily wrapper, it initially releases intense, spicy aromas before developing mineral and leathery notes with a hint of coffee.
The Da Vinci is a slender 7.5x40 Lancero dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci’s painting “The Last Supper.” The cigar represents the first day of Creation, when God created light. This long, thin panetela is finished with a so-called “pig tail.” Its earthy flavor of black pepper and cocoa powder leads into woody oak notes with a hint of anise.
The Botticelli is a 7x58 Salomon, named after Sandro Botticelli and inspired by “The Announcement.” It recently made headlines when the team of Super Bowl champions, the Los Angeles Rams, and quarterback Matt Stafford celebrated by lighting one up during the parade. It represents the third day of Creation, when God created the earth, the sea, and the plants. This large cigar shows a perfect balance between nutty flavors and earthiness. It remains medium-bodied, but is noticeably more intense on the retrohale.
