Vegas de Santiago Chaman
The Tabacalera Vegas Santiago produces in Costa Rica, in the small town of Santiago de Puriscal, located west of the capital San José toward the Pacific. With around 35,000 inhabitants, it is effectively the heart of the manageable yet refined cigar production of the so-called “Switzerland” of Central America. Tobacco has been grown and cigars rolled here for around 100 years.
Cigar Enjoyment from the Heart of Central America: Discover Vegas de Santiago from Costa Rica
The Chaman cigars by Vegas de Santiago presented here are the mildest within the broad portfolio of the renowned Costa Rican brand. They are very pleasant and effortless to enjoy, yet still rich in aroma. With various Costa Rican tobaccos in the filler, a binder from Nicaragua, and an Connecticut wrapper from Ecuador, they offer a mildly aromatic blend that can be enjoyed relaxed throughout the day.
The Tabacalera Vegas de Santiago was decisively shaped by the Cuban exile Don Luis Santana Lamas. After 30 years with H. Upmann in Cuba, he left his home island and emigrated to Costa Rica upon retirement. Yet even there, he “couldn’t help himself.” His curiosity drove him to collaborate with local tobacco growers and offer them his expertise. Over a period of 10 years, until his death in 2006, this resulted in a significant transfer of knowledge that elevated the manufactory’s capabilities to a new, markedly higher level. When it comes to cultivation, curing, aging, and storage of raw tobacco, the tabacalera in Costa Rica is now among the leaders.
The Art of Cigar Making: Insight into the Tabacalera Vegas de Santiago in Costa Rica
Lamas cooperated from 2003 onward with the father of today’s owner, Marc Niehaus. Marc himself is a former teacher and emigrated to Costa Rica in 2009 to support his father. Today, the Vegas de Santiago cigars are available in many countries around the world and have a loyal following of cigar aficionados. Of course, we also carry a wide selection of other cigars from Costa Rica – as always, true to our motto: “If you can’t find the cigar at Cigarworld.de, it probably doesn’t exist!”
