Vegas de Santiago White Label

This line from the cigar producer Vegas de Santiago was the first from the tabacalera to be marketed internationally. The father of the current company head emigrated to Costa Rica as a retiree in the early 2000s and plunged into the “cigar adventure” when he secured the worldwide export rights to the Vegas de Santiago White Label Cigars.

The Success Story of Vegas de Santiago Cigars: An Adventure from Costa Rica to Switzerland

His son and current company head Marc Niehaus gave up his job as a teacher in Switzerland and has been supporting his father in the tabacalera since 2009. Since then, remarkable successes have been achieved, and a broad portfolio of Vegas de Santiago Cigars has been introduced and distributed internationally. Following his father’s death, Marc is now the sole head of the company and steers the fortunes of his cigar brand in the areas of creation, packaging, and marketing. The cigars are produced in the tabacalera of the Olman Leon Guzman family. The filler blend of this series comes from Costa Rica and Nicaragua. The binder is from Costa Rica, while the wrapper, in turn, comes from Nicaragua.

Handcrafted Tradition: The Variety of the Vegas de Santiago Cigar Line

All six available vitolas are, of course, handcrafted longfillers. Aside from this tabacalera, the only other internationally known or relevant brand is Brun del Ré Cigars. Interestingly, the Corazza family, which produces this brand, is also of Swiss origin. So there seems to be some kind of connection between European Switzerland and the “Switzerland of Central America” – perhaps we should ask both of them what that might be about. ;-)
